RESEARCH PROJECTS & COLLABORATIONS.
2006 – 2008 “Wunderforschung”
A research collaboration between scientists, philosophers, children and an artist exploring the nature of gaining knowledge and breaking the boundaries of isolation between scientific, philosophical, artistic and children’s research. The project focused on ‘miracles’, ‘strange natural appearances’ and the latest technological inventions exploring historical as well as contemporary methodologies of understanding.
In addition to my involvement in research, I also documented the collection of the Natural History Museum(Berlin), resulting in a series of large format photographs. In addition I was commissioned to design the exhibition, which included site specific furniture and working closely with architects to supervise the production and installation of the exhibition.
Research partners:
Max-Planck-Institute, Department for the History of Science, Berlin
Museum for Natural History/ Humboldt University, Berlin
Comenius Garten, Berlin
Research outcome:
An exhibition combining all research results at the Museum for Natural History (2. Februar bis 30. April 2008), accompanied by a 40-page publication (Wunderforschung, Museum for Natural History, Berlin 2008, edited by C.Terstappen) and daily workshops at the museum during the same period of time.
Funded by:
Hauptstadtkulturfond, Berlin, Germany
2007/2008 'Far Away – So close’
A research project documenting Germans living in Australia and recording their unusual life stories.
This project followed the photographic series by the Australian artist Che Chapman, resident in Berlin, who explored the lives of Australians living in Germany.
Research partner:
Goethe Institut Australia
Research outcome:
The project resulted in the production of a large series of images and the selection of 25 photographic portraits and a summary of their life-stories.
The photographs and texts were exhibited at the Immigration Museum Melbourne in September 2007, followed by the Goethe Institut Sydney in December 2007. Other exhibition venues will follow.
The project was accompanied by a catalogue and an interactive portal www.goethe.de/faraway that showed all photos from the double exhibition and offered interested readers the possibility of telling their own German-Australian stories.
Funded by:
Goethe Institut Australia and Germany
2008 “Out of the Square”
Out of the Square is the title of the Mornington Peninsular Regional Gallery (MPRG) exhibition, curated by Rodney James exploring current and future architectural concepts embracing environmentally sustainable principles. As part of the exhibition I was commissioned to research and document local features and specific characteristics of the Mornington Peninsular that inspired the architectural responses/coastal residencies.
Research partners:
Mornington Peninsular Regional Gallery
Senior Curator Rodney James
Research outcome:
The production of a series of photographic images for the exhibition and the 95-page catalogue publication; ‘Out of the Square’, Beach architecture on the Mornington Peninsular, Mornington Peninsular Regional Gallery, 2008 ISBN 9780975782576
